In February 2002 contemplated to renovate the house that had been built in 1884 as a small one bedroom cottage. It was changed to 2 separate apartments in 1974 and has not experienced any maintenance since then.Very soon we had to conclude that a renovation of the house is neither feasible due to the very bad physical condition of the structure nor sensible as massive changes of the roof would have been required. We therefore investigated the alternative of a new house. A lengthy process with lots of design alternatives, many meetings with neighbours, architects, HLB and the planning commission let to the design that we are now implementing. The complexity of the steep but small site, the extensive rains during the winter 2005/06, the landslide next door and the restless strive for high quality made it a very challenging experience for everybody involved…
